Meet our Fraternities

There are currently 7 member chapters of the Interfraternity Council. Current Fraternities date back to 1905 bringing brotherhood and service to ONU’s campus to this day.

Alpha Sigma Phi

NICKNAME: Alpha Sigs
COLORS: Cardinal and Stone
FOUNDED: December 6, 1845
LOCAL FOUNDING: January 17, 1942; March 26, 2018 (re-colonization)
PRESIDENT: Zak Lemon (z-lemon@onu.edu)
DESCRIPTION:The Gamma Alpha Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi was started in 1945 at ONU. Recolonization began in 2018 to restore the fraternity back on campus. The basic values of Alpha Sigma Phi are Silence, Charity, Purity, Honor, and Patriotism.
BELIEF/MOTTO: Causa Latet Vis Est Notissima - "The cause is hidden, the results well-known."

Delta Sigma Phi

COLORS: Nile Green and Carnation White
FOUNDED: Dec. 10, 1899

DESCRIPTION: The Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi was started in 1920 at ONU. The basic foundations of Delta Sigma Phi are brotherhood, leadership and scholarship.

Phi Gamma Delta

NICKNAME: FIJI/Phi Gam
COLORS: Royal Purple and White
FOUNDED: May 1, 1848

DESCRIPTION: Phi Gamma Delta was founded in fall 2012. Phi Gamma Delta's key values are friendship, knowledge, service, morality and excellence. Phi Gamma Delta is committed to providing opportunities for each brother to develop responsibility, leadership, scholarship and social skills in order to become a fully contributing member of society.
BELIEF/MOTTO: Friendship, the sweetest influence.

Phi Mu Delta

COLORS: Princeton Orange, Black and White
FOUNDED: March 1, 1918
LOCAL FOUNDING: April 10, 1926, Feb. 20, 2014 (re-colonization)

DESCRIPTION: The Mu Beta Colony of Phi Mu Delta is a social fraternity whose purpose at Ohio Northern University is to enhance the educational process by providing individuals with a commitment to democracy, brotherhood and service. This is accomplished through service to the college, the brotherhood, the individual, and the development of the human spirit by creating life-long friendships.

Sigma Phi Epsilon

NICKNAME: Sig Ep
COLORS: Purple, Red and Gold
FOUNDED: November 1, 1901
LOCAL FOUNDING: February 21, 1905

DESCRIPTION: Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded in Richmond, Virginia in 1901. Currently, 15,000 active undergraduates are SigEps, more than any other national fraternity. Over 315,000 lifetime members ranks SigEp among the largest national fraternities. ONU's SigEp chapter has the recognition of being the first house exclusively for fraternity use. ONU's SigEp chapter also has the honor of being the first chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon in the State of Ohio.

Sigma Pi

DESCRIPTION: Sigma Pi Fraternity was founded in 1897 at Vincennes University, in Vincennes, Indiana. The Fraternity is one of the top men’s collegiate organizations in North America, with more than 120 active chapters and colonies in the United States and Canada. With over 100,000 alumni and 5,700 undergraduates; our men strive for excellence by living our core values to promote fellowship, develop character and leadership, advance heightened moral awareness, enable academic achievement, and inspire service.

Theta Chi

COLORS: Military Red and White
FOUNDED: April 10, 1856
LOCAL FOUNDING: May 14, 1966

DESCRIPTION: The Theta Chi fraternity was founded in Norwich, Vt., in 1856. The chapter at ONU was formed in 1966. The brothers take part in many extracurricular activities outside of their studies.
